VVS Laxman likely to retire after New Zealand Series
The
very very special batsman VVS Laxman, who is considered as one of the
finest middle-order batsmen of Indian Cricket is likely to retire after
the New Zealand Series. According to the reports, he is likely to
announce the retirement during the first test itself. Incidently, the
first test is to be played at Hyderabad and this will only be his second
test in front of the home crowd.
The 37 year old veteran cricketer started his career in 1996 against
South Africa and since then played 134 tests and 86 ODIs. In Tests he
scored 8,781 runs at an average of 45.97, including 17 centuries and 56
half centuries. In ODIs he scored 2,338 runs at an average of 30.76,
including 6 centuries and 10 half centuries. Six out of his 17 Test
hundreds, and four out of his six ODI hundreds have come against
Australia. He will be remembered for his extraordinary innings of 281
against Australia at the Eden Gardens in 2001 which led India to a
tremendous victory from nowhere.
